He portrays a larger-than-life superhero on TV, and now WWE wrestler Roman Reigns has revealed he’s in the battle of his life as he fights cancer. The 33-year-old Reigns, whose real name is Joe Anoa’i, made the announcement Monday night to a stunned audience around the world that he will step away from the ring because he has leukemia.
He was originally diagnosed in 2008 at age 22, though he went into remission. In a rare unscripted moment, he revealed that the cancer has come back.
Reigns says he’s taking his battle with leukemia public in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease.
